Control Burn- Chicken House - In the area of Route 610
Tuesday, April 6, 2010

After a short meeting, members from Showell Volunteer Fire Department prepared for a control burn on Route 610. Crews from Engine 802, Engine 803, Engine 804, Tanker 805, Brush 806, 800 A-1, and Utility 880 were present for the burn. Upon ignition, Cadet Josh Pruitt with the supervision of his father David Pruitt protected a nearby shed with a hoseline off of Tanker 805. Cadets were shown fire as it spread throughout the chicken house and some novice firefighters were given a chance to take control of the nozzle and learn different techniques. As the chicken house burned down, the structure then became safe enough for the department to leave and all units returned back to station 800.
